War
Why are most wars fought? Pride (World War 2), glory (Troy), money (All of them)… the list may go on and on. Virtue Ethics has a lot to do with people involved in wars. Here is where people’s characters show off the most, in times of war. Who can judge what is right or wrong. Hitler is seen as a monster, but what If all what he did was viewed by him as a virtuous act. We can remember the very sad images and memories that the holocaust brings us, but was this why Hitler started the war in first place. Is it ethical to judge a man that wanted to raise Germany back from its ashes and make it a economical and military power again? Virtue ethics does nothing more than emphasize the character of the moral agent. War for some people such as former president George w Bush jr. was viewed as a way to fix things and as a payback to those who hurt America. Many people supported him at the beginning and many people where sure that there morals and heart were set in the right place. So, how come did the population stopped supporting him a couple of years into the war? Morals and ethics change according through current circumstances, and moral agents more often commit mistakes even though they think they are doing the right thing. Into the war, many prisoners were publicly humiliated by U.S. soldiers. Many people were in disgust when the press released this images, this is where there natural flow of virtue ethics click in their heads. What about if the prisoners over there raped someone and deserved to be publicly humiliated by the marines? Everything should be put in perspective every time virtue ethics kicks in.
