War is defined a state of armed conflicts between different nations or states or different groups within the states. One would say that it is ethically correct or maybe even necessary to go to war and, in the process, take many many lives and cause injury to many. If this is what some people would say then I beg to differ. Why should it be acceptable for people to go to war and take thousands or even millions of lives in some cases when the Lord that we all must follow and who mandates our lives, which should be devoted to the sole purpose of worshipping him, clearly states in His laws that to kill is forbidden. The fifth commandment from the Ten Commandments which are the laws set forth by the church, states, “you shall not kill.” This law does not exclude wars. All society should be able to live in harmony under the rule of our creator God, with his representation on Earth, the pope, as the ruler. It is never accepted to take a life unless it is solely for the purpose of self-defense and it is necessary to protect your own life and the only way to do so is to kill or be killed. If it is not necessary to take this person’s life then one must not do so. If you do end up taking his life it is absolutely necessary to go to confession and repent for your sin so that you may be admitted into His kingdom.
- Thomas Aquinas
I agree that humans need to live in harmony. It is not acceptable to kill anything, even an ant. Humans need to treat others the way they want to be treated. Suffering cannot be avoided, but there is a way to get to the root of it and become enlightened. There are other ways to solve problems. War will only bring more conflict and an agreement will still be absent. I do not agree that people might kill in self-defense. People should reevaluate their lives and analyze their reasons of their unhappiness. If they do that they will not treat others violently, therefore no one will need to defend themselves by killing.
